Some vintage Kenwood, TEAC, the ubiquitous Sansui reverb amp, and a few modern pieces to round it out. A/D/S and Dahlquist speakers.

That there is a throne room, friend! Stereo Valhalla. May you encounter many more happy listening days.

FriedPossumPecker23

Thanks, same to you! The dog and I spend many hours in this room haha.

A righteous landscape

friedtwinkie

My goal is to have something similar to this room and stay married

FriedPossumPecker23

I’m happily divorced, I hope you don’t have to go that route haha... I did find a tolerant, very sweet girlfriend though

WestwardAlien

Better yet, just never get married

HeadlessDecapitator

Love that High On Fire print

_humanpieceoftoast

Came here to say this. Love Death is This Communion.

ssl-3

You keep your tapes near magnets?

FriedPossumPecker23

Yes, not the best place for storing tapes... these are tapes with content I’m going to record over so I’m being a bit careless. Good point though, definitely not a best practice. I think they should probably be stored vertically (?) as well...

ssl-3

Yep. Vertical is a better: It prevents the bottom edge of the tape from deforming due from the forces placed on them by gravity.

FriedPossumPecker23

That makes sense, thanks!

bkk-bos

The sickness; advanced stages.

FriedPossumPecker23

Yes I have chronic bouts of no common sense.

bkk-bos

Well, that's not a problem as common sense has no known link to audiophilia anyway.

sensorydeprivationla

Dig it, have wanted that Sansui reverb for some time but know I’d never use the thing. What’s on top of the Teac R2R?

FriedPossumPecker23

It’s an old Realistic EQ... silver face and fake wood veneer so it fits right in. Only there to balance the looks, not the sound haha.

Skid-Vicious

I had a couple this last winter, part of two complete Sansui quad systems I had briefly. If you add just a small amount of reverb it gives an interesting openness and more of a hall/concert feel. Anything from half up and it sounded cartoony. Worth it just for the lights.

hairyanus47

Mushroom magic book. I see you!

FriedPossumPecker23

Ha yes, big Arik Roper fan...

Generally_Merce

Did you build the record holder? Because it looks so custom and beautiful.

FriedPossumPecker23

I’m not as handy or talented as some of the other folks on here unfortunately...The wall mounted holders I got on eBay, They are a little too deep and I don’t like the angle records sit at but they work. The shelves are IKEA Kallax, not oriented in the best way for shelf strength but they seem to be holding up.

PNWExile

Ka 6100? Kt 6500?

FriedPossumPecker23

Yes, that’s right. On the left top down is a Sansui RA 700 (display only, pretty lights), Kenwood KA-6100, KT-6500, KX-1030; this stack is tied to the two older Pioneer CDJ-1000s and Numark mixer on the right. Dahlquist M905 for speakers. The right stack is a Kenwood KD-5070 currently fitted with a Nagaoka MP-110, KA-7100, KX-830, Cambridge Audio AXC35; also tied to the TEAC A-2300SX reel to reel on the right. A/D/S L8e speakers and a tiny but solid Pinnacle sub.

PNWExile

Any difference between those two Kenwood amps?

FriedPossumPecker23

Not to my ears, they both sound great. I have a small recapped KA-3700 I had paired with the Dahlquists but wanted to push them a little more and found the almost mint 6100 with the tuner and couldn’t pass it up. I like the simple look of the 7100 though and it definitely drives those big bookshelves. I’d like to hear some other models of A/D/S speakers, these have a distinct sound I really like. A Kenwood KA-3700 is a steal for a small amp in my opinion, they really don’t go for that much even recapped.

PNWExile

I snagged a 6100/6500 set last summer and just getting it going. I really like the warm sound but it needs a little TLC.

SeaPhile206

Where?

PhillyKernel

What a room!

agosto0420

Dopesmoker first press, cool!

FriedPossumPecker23

Yeah that was one of my “forget-the-cost-you-deserve-this” records. Although the price seems reasonable now looking at what they go for currently. So easy to rationalize haha.

Afrophish85

I'll hope there's at least one Death record in that stash, just based off the art on the walls haha. I'm not even a metal guy but Death is fucking awesome

FriedPossumPecker23

I have to be honest and say not yet... I had some on cassette back in the day and I have found myself rebuilding my lost (and much abused) tape collection with vinyl. Nostalgia is an expensive drug. Individual Thought Patterns is on the list for sure.

RecipeForIceCubes

It's about time to see a Kenwood nut show off here!!! The 5070 is one helluva TT. Next time you have a little cash for the cartridge bug replacement (or just for fun), try running a Sumiko Rainier. You can upgrade just the stylus to the Olympia or Moonstone with the same body. AWESOME cartridge for Kenwood arms!!! Any arms really. Budget friendly at $150. It will blow the Nagaoka away and Sumiko carts are easy to set up not just with the shorter effective length and odd overhang of Kenwood tonearms but in general on nearly all decks. Rock out!!!

FriedPossumPecker23

Yeah I looked long and hard at those Sumikos, I may try that next. I like the Nagaoka but I’m not as impressed as I wanted to be. I picked up a solid KD-3070 a while ago that came with 5 different vintage Acutex carts... they sound awesome and were pretty well regarded in their time, but I figured I’d try a modern cart to see what I was missing. Thanks for the tip!

bartlettdmoore

Must be fun to look through all the album artwork

WestwardAlien

Ooh nice reverb amp! What do you use it for?

FriedPossumPecker23

Just for looks... I’ve played with it a bit but never really dialed it in. They do seem to pop up on here once in a while.

WestwardAlien

Nice! I’ve been after one for a while. They can actually make really great headphone amps

hellbus80

Spotted Violent by design there ...very nice

I_like_apostrophes

That Portishead poster looks positively innocuous next to all that violent imagery.

RoseBold

You should post this on r/amateurroomporn

JeffCookElJefe

Wow, quite the awesome collection of music and equipment

poseitom

I love the design of your setup but what do you use the reverb for?

FriedPossumPecker23

Just for display, it looks cool at night.

poseitom

I digg this answer :D

Zandt88

Is that an SAE EQ on the upper right above the reel to reel?

FriedPossumPecker23

It’s a Realistic model 31-1987.

Zandt88

Thanks.

Poenkel

How tall are you?

FriedPossumPecker23

Ha I was waiting for that question. I’m not tall, 5’10. The photo is a little deceptive, but the turntable and reel-to-reel height is fine with me and there really isn’t much to the higher equipment but turning it on. I have a very small room to work with and my cd collection (partially in the picture) takes up the other wall.

Poenkel

I had a good night's sleep last night and when I woke up I was 5'11.lol

Poenkel

Any way you could post close ups of your equipment?

FriedPossumPecker23

Here you go... [Gear and room pictures.](https://imgur.com/a/lBhWRPd)

Poenkel

Man that's some awesome equipment you've got. I know the unit in the second Pic is Kenwood. What is the unit in the 3rd Pic. Also the unit with the color display and the one on top of the reel player. What are those?

lizzyflyy

Beautiful set-up!! 😍

FriedPossumPecker23

Thanks!
