NoWingedHussarsToday

New Croat Armed Forces camouflage pattern

tojan00

It's working well though! I mean, did you see that battalion marching on the road?

Domi4

Dassault Rafale fighter jets are there but you can't see them

stillaras

if you look hard enough you can see a couple tanks here

Isotheis

The white lines aren't interrupted, the fixes seem relatively leveled, and there's no hole in sight... Yes, this is too clean to be Belgium. Well done, Croatia!

No_Contract2815

We in Croatia think that only we have terrible roads like this :D

Isotheis

This place is nice, because with the different dates on Google Maps, you can see how the road was terrible, got remade, then progressively went back to terrible, in a span of only ten years. I can tell you the bus' windows were incredibly loud on the entire trip from there to the main town, with all the broken roads. [https://www.google.com/maps/@50.3525883,4.4338967,3a,75y,349.72h,72.84t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1ssR2ctxgRDqXfl0JcLLgf4Q!2e0!5s20131101T000000!7i13312!8i6656](https://www.google.com/maps/@50.3525883,4.4338967,3a,75y,349.72h,72.84t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1ssR2ctxgRDqXfl0JcLLgf4Q!2e0!5s20131101T000000!7i13312!8i6656)

No_Contract2815

If the name of the road wasn't written, I would have thought that this is my local road. It looks pretty bad. I dont know if it is the same in Belgium but here the roads are usually repaired before election. We have a local elections this month and currently croatian roads are construction sites :D

Isotheis

Yes, that's actually very common. That road took a while to be repaired, because it makes the connection between two towns ; so people who will vote in the town who owns the road aren't using that road too much.

SmokeyCosmin

> but here the roads are usually repaired before election. What a dream this must be. In Romania they only start or finish the roadworks before elections...

Pineloko

Where do you live? I never see the roads be in such bad condition unless it's some barely inhabited village

No_Contract2815

Zagreb :). Up until recently there was a street in Dubrava and you literally had to drive 20km/h to not damage your car

Pineloko

Incredible

ezname

In Bulgaria, we have places we can't drive even with 5km/h without damaging our cars.

No_Contract2815

I think one thing that we all learned from this post is that whole Europe has bad roads. Except highways. Our highway is really great.

ezname

Our main highway has 2 lanes, one of them you have to slow down to 60-70km if you don't want to break your suspension at a few places. And you have to be brave to drive the speed limit all the time. P.S I've looked at google maps before and your roads are at least 5x better than ours no matter where they are

TinkeNL

Driving from the Netherlands into Belgium and my the navigation app Flitsmeister giving the notifications 'welcome to Belgium' and 'warning, bad road conditions' right after each other always cracks me up!

Sa-naqba-imuru

This road, on the other hand, [was pretty much the same 10 years ago](https://www.google.hr/maps/@45.2810516,19.1286997,3a,60y,155.7h,69.99t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sGg5QecAYWHYUb-5rYwjpjA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=hr). It just got even more patched. But yeah, even though Croatian roads are very patched (except motorways and main coastal roads, they are always kept in perfect condition for tourists), they are still not full of holes and it's not horrible to drive on them. It mostly just looks ugly and sounds bumpy in older vehicles.

blitzAnswer

Looks pretty clean to me in 2020.

Meerkieker

This looks like everywhere in Italy

Domi4

You call this bad road?

_Mr_Guohua_

Have you even been to Italy? If not, come here and try to drive, it will be a nightmare

No_Contract2815

I was in Venice and Milan but dont remember the roads. This summer I plan on going to Dolomites(if corona lets me) so I will pay attention to the roads :D

Isotheis

My experience with Italy was fine roads, crazy drivers. Like, are all of you colorblind, or...? I almost always got squished when trying to walk on a pedestrian crossing.

Currywurst_Is_Life

Same here. When we drove down from Germany, and crossed the border from Switzerland into Italy, it was as if someone waved a green flag at an F1 race.

ibexelf

Some German and Swiss tourists for sure may feel that way. They seem to think that the autostrada is a race circuit sometimes.

_Mr_Guohua_

You have got to pay attention when you cross the road, people won't stop even if they see someone waiting to cross. I don't know why it is like that, but many times I risked my life for that

Airazz

[Slovakia says hi.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbU-JSxX130)

kennyFF92

Come to Rome for a few days and you're going to appreciate your country's roads more than ever. A road like this would be a dream for me

Penepotente

Croatia has good roads - if you think they are bad - come with me on a little trip to BiH.

No_Contract2815

Im there almost every year and I know. If only the roads were the worst problem... But you forget about the roads with that beautiful nature, I love BiH and your hospitality.

MalleBeer

You can feel it when you cross the border with Belgium...

Carnifex

We're sorry, they were mainly used for crossing though with destination France ;)

Venhuizer

Ahh the holes are just the panzer tracks in the road

Patient-Leather

Too soon

impaglg

At leat it looks leveled... Unlike where I'm from

AkruX

The leveling job is actually impressive. I don't think I've ever seen such job in real life and I've seen A LOT of patched roads.

MrStrul3

I mean this is pretty much an art over here in Croatia. I ride my bike a lot so sometimes these patched up roads are better then some unpatched roads that have a crack going from one side to the other every 5 meters for some reason.

Zedilt

>some unpatched roads that have a crack going from one side to the other every 5 meters for some reason. Those are probably old concrete roads just paved over with asphalt.

MrStrul3

Might be, i know that the main street in my town has wooden pylons from who knows what century underneath it and it is one of the better roads around.

requiem_mn

Highly doubt it, I don't think this was ever done in exYu

SloRules

Highway of brotherhood and unity Ljubljana-Zagreb-Beograd is concrete and i know for sure some parts in Slovenia are stripped and repastes with asphalt.

xenon_megablast

Can please come to Italy and teach us how to do it? Every time they patch the roads is worst and worst until they start from scratch.

VredXCIX

Yeah people using motorbikes/scooters/bicycles literally risk their lives here

radak555

Understandable when you live in Czechia

Ajdee6

Where I live they do a lot of patching, and off roading is more of a smooth ride.

Sire_jean_le_baveux

Belgium?

blikk

Must be

DaPurr

As a fellow Dutchie, I appreciate this comment

impaglg

Italy...

VredXCIX

I was expecting that hahaha

Bubblykit

I was about to say this it looks quite smooth

pppjurac

It is not, on original article there are more photos and it anything but level.

Spinochat

Came here to say this: Quebec ‘s roads are a textured patchwork designed to make you feel every shade of asphalt in its uniqueness. It’s a motorcycle rider’s nightmare.

MG-10

Beautiful

SquidCap0

*We should repave the 340.* *Nah, we would need to collect more taxes and we won't be elected back. Lets just put a patch over it.* Repeat long enough and that repaving would've been 5 times cheaper. But it costs more today and your opponent accuses of not being fiscally responsible..

HowObvious

Doesn't apply here but in a city I regularly hear the same people complain about patching roads not being effective but also complain about the disruption when repaving the entire road. Definitely a no win situation.

MadMarx42

Not a single pothole though!

db7fromthe6

This is like a road in Poland if they patched all the holes.

grovbroed

Funny, I actually witnessed a road in Poland that looked looked like this. The towns mayor lived on that street.

db7fromthe6

There is a Canadian joke. it's not very politically correct but... the Chiefs driveway is always paved

grovbroed

Heh, there must a grain of truth to it. I'm actually talking about a real street. I tried to find it on Google Maps, but no luck. I just noticed the street looked different and my friend said the mayor lived there. Now, I'm wondering if he was actually joking.

Adepo

Homeless mayor?! Now I've seen everything!

Khelthuzaad

Lol I always thought that's a romanian thing :)

pennypacker2021

Maybe they are LGBT holes so never get fixed.

wolframAPCR

Somebody quick get this hole a plug!

DamageOwn3108

Cursed

DuckFilledChattyPuss

In 2015 an anonymous person in Manchester found an ingenious way to get potholes fixed faster - he used industrial chalk to draw penises and the word 'wanksy'. The council found the easiest way to remove the eyesores was to fix the potholes. I believe someone did something similar in Middlesborough in 2019.

rpgengineer567

I like this person haha. Biggest middle finger to lazy politicians

Quintless

Tbh it’s not lazy politicians, it’s cuts in funding. Social care and other more essential services have had to be protected by cutting in other areas.

wolframAPCR

Oh those poor poor tax-dodging millionnaires!

Anteater776

The road of Theseus.

SGC_Armourer

Came to post this, well played!

Mr_Zombay

The real reason they patch it: local voting is taking place in croatia...better fix the roads so u get more votes

MrStrul3

The state roads get patched regularly, county roads less and town streets whenever elections come up.

Mr_Zombay

Sve mi jasno...evo kod mene cijeli grad je bauštela

yugo_1

This is art, my friends. Paint it and sell it for 20 million of your currency of choice.

Awesummzzz

Jokes on you, my currency of choice is Venezuelan Bolivar

chronos_7734

[Source](https://www.24sata.hr/fun/foto-mozete-li-prebrojiti-svaku-zakrpu-na-ovoj-cesti-kod-iloka-760215)

Rank_and_File_Guy

Still needed less patches than Cyberpunk 2077.

stiiknafuulia

Ehh. As a cyclist, I'll take it over those concrete slab 'tank roads' any day of any week.

ce_km_r_eng

>Ehh. As a cyclist, I'll take it over those concrete slab 'tank roads' any day of any week. This comment needs more love, concrete slab roads are a cyclist nightmare.

RacingRaptor

I don't see any pothole so they made a good job. Here in Poland they would just slap some asphalt like thing onto one of the multiple holes , say it is done and then drove away. Sure quality of some main roads inproved but side roads are often speciall off road stages ( 15 years ago my family needed an 4x4 off road car to go to our house. But our good old Lada Niva was doing it no problem).

goranlepuz

ITT: **I can beat that!!!**

therealmarko

If you patch every part of road is it still same road?

wolframAPCR

Yes

Leopardo96

Something similar to this is often seen in Poland, but this is a whole new level of insane.

ChiCourier

In the US, farm roads like that would just go un-patched and un-re-asphalted (I hope that English makes sense to you) until something really major happened. A lot of farm roads here are just pressed gravel. AnD tHiS iS aMeRiCa!

[deleted]

I cant tell if your comment praises or makes fun of the states...

DavideBaldini

It's a Progressist's comment gasping for the upcoming infrastructure bill. For us Europeans, making fun of America is old fashioned in face of all the ~~populism and state-monopolies~~ political progress Americans enjoyed in the last century; after Biden ~~plants the last nail in the coffin~~ rises the country from the hashes, they will become very much just like us, ~~just another poor~~ our latest proud addition to the 27 member states, with all new capital investments and economic progress further relocating to the Middle East and China. After all, in Italy we are still making fun of the economic and social differences between North and South, after a century and a half of unification. I expect we will continue to make fun of America for some time to come, despite the differences are getting thinner after every new presidency.

ChiCourier

I guess it’s leaning more towards making fun of the US but with sympathy for Croatia, but making fun of them as well. Overall, I understand what rural roads can be like. They are generally not great no matter where you are. My family owns a great deal of rural land far away from where I live, and there’s a long stretch of road going across it. It’s in a town with about 100 people in it and maybe just four families including mine ever even use that road. So the disrepair is kind of tolerated within that very small community, knowing that it’s “our road” in a sense. So, as long as we can still use the road to access our land, we don’t care too much about how it looks. I think I see that with this road in Croatia, which is obviously in a rural area with few people. I doubt they care about what that road looks like at all—but kudos to them for at least spending SOME public money on the random patchwork. It’s endearing. It looks silly but shows they care about the integrity of the road as well as not draining more than is needed from the city budget. Does that make sense? tl;dr it’s universal rural humor

[deleted]

Our opinions on this topic are the same. Yes, it makes sense. cheers

MrStrul3

The only place where US Army UCP camo would work.

BchLasagna

Highest quality road in balkans 💪

adogsheart

Now wait for the comments explaining how Croatia is actually central Europe.

myotheraccwasstolen

Cmon! We not Czechs, we are clearly mitteleuropa!

poke133

West Balkans at the very least.

Commie_Napoleon

Every patch represents an election, because that’s the only time they actually patch them. So this road actually symbolizes our democracy, corrupt and ineffective as it is.

Sa-naqba-imuru

That is not true, they are constantly repatched and there are almost no potholes on the roads. I don't remember when I last saw one, in or outside the city.

luigimini

Youve got to be kidding

Sa-naqba-imuru

I am not kidding and I live close to where that photo is taken. Maybe in some mountain villages, but I don't know about that.

BYKHero-97

Just how I do my house chores

[deleted]

it looks like turkish kirkyama(Patchwork) art. i like it, This road is not in a bad shape, just has so many edits.

Yonutz33

That looks familiar, but still somewhat better then what's here in Romania

EvilBurgerSandwich

If this road was in Poland there would be at least 5 signs and 10 billboards...

shinylakes

Road's too small to have any billboards by its side, but signs? Hell yeah.

matude

Road of Theseus.

STerrier666

Why does the road have so many different shades of grey? I ask as I don't live in Croatia.

HertzBraking

Asphalt loses color over time and these patches are done in different intervals.

STerrier666

Aah I see it's fascinating to look at.

Scarrazaar

That game SCUM got it wrong

chronos_7734

That map is more coast and mountainous region of Croatia. This is in Slavonija (east part of country)

pm_me_some_sandpaper

Well the same country gave us Dalmatians so...

_CZakalwe_

I see what you did there, have my upvote

RenSch89

I came here for "oh yeah I know that road it's in my home town in Germany". Than I read the title... How fast do you get on those roads in Croatia? Also 100-130?

No_Contract2815

Not that fast since its not highway. This is what we would call "fast road" which is not in a very populated city/village, so the speed is probably 60-80 km/h.

shinylakes

Germans are allowed to drive 100-130 on roads like this?

RenSch89

100 yes. 130 is for roads where lanes are seperated physically from eatch other.

shinylakes

Okay, so it's similar here, just 90/120, I thought that you can drive 130 on roads without physical lane separation.

RenSch89

No, Just my crazy person does it with 130. 90/120 is simply enough. Germans should do it like all other EU countries. No more unlimited speed.

shinylakes

Well, I'd say there's one thing that we should do as other EU members too. Look at some example signs: [DE](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Zeichen_393_b_-_Informationstafel_an_Grenz%C3%BCberg%C3%A4ngen_(an_sonstigen_Stra%C3%9Fen_au%C3%9Ferhalb_der_Autobahn),_StVO_1981.svg) [CZ](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:CZ-IP28b_Nejvy%C5%A1%C5%A1%C3%AD_dovolen%C3%A9_rychlosti_(2016_-_verze_2015-07-31).jpg) [FR](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:France_road_sign_C25a.svg) [UA](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ukraine_road_sign_5.49.gif) and compare this to [that sign](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Znak_D-39._Ograniczenia_pr%C4%99dko%C5%9Bci_w_Polsce_od_2011.svg). I wonder if clerks just want to overcomplicate stuff to show that they're doing something. How am I suppose to read this and remember when it's set on the country's border? Third and fourth rows are setting rules on almost nonexistent types of roads.

RenSch89

Yeah you pass that sign by almost 50 km/h you will remember all. Thanks for the info.

Motorrad_appreciator

Svaki dan sanjam Autobahn.

AirWolf231

Bio bi razocaran, vecina hrvatskih autocesta su bolje kvalitete... no jbg nedostatak ograničenja na brzinu je super.

niek_in

I have seen way more roads like this in Germany than in Croatia...

denfryenkerl

Germany also has pretty shit roads, for which they have no excuse

erotic_shaolin

Still better than potholes

Clanky72

It looks weird but props to the administration that keeps the road working and safe

Noxeecheck

Looks kinda cute actually

-FERMINO-

Laugh in Ukrainian

swampy1977

This is what the road looks like infront of my flat in Czech republic. Well done Croatia. [https://ibb.co/fnKH6jW](https://ibb.co/fnKH6jW)

Arnios1

So taking a picture of the Latvian roads and selling it on the internet as Croatian, nice.

[deleted]

Looks like the croatian flag

Icy-Patient1206

So beautiful! Where I am the potholes are new every day and the patches are so very lumpy — just some asphalt dumped in the hole and kind of flattened into a small hill. Not this kind of smooth patching.

kaukanapoissa

Finland is a strong contender. Our winters here, temperatures fluctuating above and below zero, ground freezing... our roads have it pretty rough. The same in Canada i guess..

P1lot1

Heh, you guys even bother to fill the potholes and the patches are level! Doing better than Belgium!

ViktorMinecraft

Yeah, same in Czech Republic

telendria

others have patchwork rural roads. amateurs, us czechs have patchwork highways!

fandango957

We have the same thing + holes in between the shades ...

TinyStar1299

Croatian patchwork

Da_Yakz

Just say its an art piece lol

CiderDrinker

Strong Mondrian vibes.

homus_balkanikus

More like 50 shades of bitum, imho.

Eaglesson

looks like the kind of pseudo camouflage eastern countries put on their stealth jets

MadLaamaDisease

Just like Finnish roads, every year they just get worse.

LifeArrow

This is like tulip fields in Holland :D

moenchii

My inner rally driver is getting really exited.

andy18cruz

Rally Croatia was great as well. Patched up roads make for great tarmac rallies.

Andrew_Drujinin

У нас в селе примерно такие же дороги

Atalant

Patchwork road. It is beautiful.

TheHMface

Best street in the balkans😉👌🤢😍👍😍😂😉😊😭

xxsignoff

this is like british roads but like on a whole other level. good to know other roads have bee

Darkness_Lalatina

Probably would still be one of the best roads if it were in Belgium.

Hodoss

Am I weird to feel it looks nice? Kinda like fields as seen from up high.

Zujmo_

Every square = 1corupt election promise

Skullerprop

50 shades of "how-to-rip-off-contributors-money-by-paying-the-same-company-to-do-lousy-repair-work-every-season". *Now available in every Balkan country + Romania.*

Finngreek

I like it rough.

panzermeyer

It has charm. lol

crossingguardcrush

i think you're very close to winning the internet today!

Godisdeadfortoolong

We didn't need that war 😄 love from serbia

Cycloneblaze

Like patchwork fields from the sky

jvgeli62321

At that point they should just have placed asphalt on the entire thing

pennypacker2021

That pothole has road on it!

superbnyan

I read that the asphalt in Croatia is bumpy and muddy. Indonesia: finally a worthy opponent.

DjoleGames101

You can find roud like this in Serbia to

onlylightlysarcastic

Just {{Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde}} is preferable literature wise 🤷🏻‍♀️

adogsheart

Still a better story than the book.

ladyshiwaa

Slovakia: "Hold my beer..."

Weothyr

Looks like patch jeans.

lily_hunts

Cool 1990s sofa pattern

lily_hunts

r/visiblemending lol

lo_fi_ho

The road has camo

ma7fr3m

Markirovka ima!

KalleTheLuolamies

Yea in Finland we have the same problem. Atleast they fix the holes more often so there are less patches

Claque-2

A lovely road quilt.

SpaceHippoDE

Hey look, it's East Germany!

AllesPat

r/unexpectedHalo

hengamer03

Lmao northern norway just patches up everything but doesn't flatten it, or they just leave large holes

darkalgae

Holy fuck lmao

[deleted]

Still better than many roads in the UK

_1JackMove

And here I thought Pennsylvania was bad with the patchwork quilt bullshit. At least they don't have potholes the size of full grown dogs every 3 feet.

Maleic_Anhydride

They used to have an infrastructure problem and they played some belgian engineers to "fix it" cheaply.

verhandlungsbasis

As someone who lives in Austria I can’t relate to this.

That_iRetro

In romania we have 50 shades of brown(mud)

H-N-O-3

tis an art

000100000

always better than potholes

Tupcek

it also completely destroys your ass

blernsball21

Anyone remember the Autoput? :)

Mosonox

You have to come to Portugal and feel for yourself.Sometimes, after the rainy season, since they put more sand that Tarmac in order to profit, There are potholes of the size of a meter long and with depth! If you fall in there, your car is going to become a salvage car!My brother fell on a pothole, that the impact was so bad that all the airbags deployed.

shadowkiller8

At least it's leveld not like in Hungary. They just put some asphalt in the holes and it's the same as before

SillyLocal

This could be Belgium as well! (Kisses from Holland)

Vegskipxx

Nice patch of road

xNuts

Jokes on you, our highway look like that.

CommieCarp

Still better than roads in Poland

ivan7d6

I guess this is the thing that unites all Slavic countries

LTFGamut

More patches than my linux kernel.
